Animamix Biennale

Media artist Jeffrey Shaw was chief curator for the 2015-16 edition of the Animamix Biennale, which exhibited works by thirteen artists and groups chiefly from East Asia. Japan was represented by the painter and video artist Takashi Ishida, associate professor of Tama Art University and juror of the Art Division at the 19th and 20th Japan Media Arts Festivals.

Animamix Biennale is held simultaneously in Shanghai, Taiwan, South Korea and other venues and also goes on tour. It was started at MoCA in Shanghai in 2007 and this year’s was its fifth edition. MoCA creative director Victoria Lu from Taiwan proposed the Animamix concept on which the internationally prominent artists base their exhibits.

*What is Animamix?
Victoria Fu proposed Animamix in 2006 as an umbrella concept for the rising trend in Asian contemporary art of works strongly influenced by animations and comics.
