Animation Division

For our online exhibit at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and MIFA2021 trade fair, we have chosen to explore the dynamic expressionism of animation using the theme “Expanded Animation.” The online program will feature screenings of films by Japanese creators, plus talks and panel discussions about the changing face of animation as a medium.

Art & Entertainment Division

For the online exhibition at Ars Electronica Festival 2021, we have created a special website for the Art and Entertainment Divisions. With "The Power of the Unseen" as theme, we will exhibit our award-winning products of Japan Media Arts Festival, as well as live stream performances and talk events.

2021

Manga Division

Japan Media Arts Festival will launch a special web site in association with the 27th Manga Barcelona to showcase award-winning manga titles selected under the curatorial theme, “Manga, Ties and Bonds.” The theme focuses on various relationships and bonds among the characters depicted in the manga. The exhibition introduces seven manga titles including one feature exhibition focusing on UMINO Chika’s work “March Comes in Like a Lion”, which was the winner of the 24th Japan media Arts Festival's Manga Division Grand Prize. We also held online roundtable talks and interviews with the manga artists whose works focus on a variety of themes.

2020

Animation Division

Following this year's special theme of "ANIMATIONISM-All Creativity Welcomed-", we will introduce the Japanese animation production studios that are popular now, unique creators, and also online short animation programs. This is a site where you can feel the dynamic scene of Japanese animation, in which a vast variety of diverse creations are produced.

Art & Entertainment Division

September 2020, we launched "TOKYO GARDEN" website as a Tokyo online outlet for Ars Electronica 2020, Europe's largest festival for art, technology and society. We planed a wide variety of contents such as, talk sessions with different artists and curators, virtual studio tours, sharing archives and showing works of winners from 2020 Prix Ars Electronica and Japan Media Art Festival 2020. Join us online for an exciting virtual tour of the Tokyo art scene.

Manga Division

In collaboration with the Manga Barcelona convention, a special website with the theme, "Manga, diversidad e inclusión" (Manga, diversity and inclusion) has been created. The site introduced six works that show the diversity of Japanese manga, with a focus on TSURUTANI Kaori's work "BL Metamorphosis", which was the winner of the 22nd Japan Media Arts Festival's Manga Division New Face Award. We also holded online Q&A sessions and live drawing sessions with manga artists who create works on a variety of themes.
